For three years almost every week the curtains closed in his bedroom. The door was locked. And then he was abused.
Dagblad Trouw is working on a series of stories of abuse among Jehovah's Witnesses. One of those stories revolves around 'Mark' (pseudonym) from Groningen.
He was abused from the age of seven to ten. By 'Wilbert' (pseudonym), a son of the head of the Jehovah congregation. To this day, almost thirty years later, he is still waiting for excuses from the perpetrator and the religious community.
At the age of fifteen, he tells his parents what happened. They notify the elders of Jehovah's congregations. But they don't do anything. A confrontation with Wilbert also does not yield a confession or apology. The years that follow also turn out to be fruitless.
