Jehovah's Witnesses deny victims access to file

Victims of child sexual abuse within Jehovah's Witnesses Netherlands are not yet allowed access to the information that the denomination has about them. The organization has informed the victims' lawyer of this by letter.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not want to cooperate because they do not know on what legal ground the victims' request is based, they write.

Thirteen victims want to see the 'criminal files' that the denomination would have about their individual abuse cases. Perpetrators of child abuse within Jehovah's Witnesses are internally punished in so-called 'judicial committees'. Records are kept of details of the case and sometimes even confessions of perpetrators.
