Jehovah's Witnesses refuse to respond to child abuse within the church

The Jehovah's Witnesses refuse to respond on Wednesday to requests for clarification about alleged child abuse within the church. The denomination says it does not recognize the number of abuse cases reported by a foundation of former members, but does not indicate how many cases it is.

When asked by whether the Jehovah's Witnesses are willing to talk to the foundation, Reclaimed Voices, followed on Wednesday afternoon a request from a spokesman for the denomination to "rephrase" that question. Asked how this could be posed in a way that would lead to an answer, the spokesman had to fail to answer.

The Jehovah's Witnesses also refuse to explain how many cases of abuse are known within the church. No statements are made about the number of members who have been excommunicated or expelled from the denomination for child abuse.
