Kamer wants to investigate abuse of Jehovah's Witnesses
All parties in the House of Representatives believe that there should be an investigation into sexual abuse at the Jehovah's Witnesses. The fractions voted in on Tuesday with a proposal from SP MP Michiel van Nispen. Raymond Hintjes, chairman of the victim organization, says in a response Reclaimed Voices, against NRC to be happy with the "recognition for the victims from the political point of view". "It makes a lot of difference with people."
"Certainly because it became clear earlier that the Jehovah's themselves do not want to conduct an independent investigation", says Hintjes. Minister Sander Dekker (VVD, Legal Protection) previously made a request to Jehovah's Witnesses to conduct internal investigations into the abuse themselves. This request was rejected.
